Before you fit a Faikout: isolate the module from the metal cover

The metal shield or cover inside the indoor unit is connected to earth. If the bare board touches it, the module shorts out and is destroyed the moment power is restored. Do not rely on a small air gap, because refitting the cover can close it. Fit the module in a case, wrap the back of the board in electrical tape or heat-shrink, or mount it outside the metal casing with the two wires run out to it. Outside the casing is the better option anyway, because the metal blocks WiFi.

The most thorough Faikin install and setup guide anyone has made: unboxing, opening the indoor unit, plugging the module in, joining it to WiFi and getting it into Home Assistant, start to finish. It is in German, so if you do not speak it, turn on subtitles with the CC button and pick your language under the settings cog, then Subtitles, then Auto-translate. The pictures do most of the work regardless.

Faikin Faikout — the plug-in module

  • Setup manual — fitting the module and getting it onto your WiFi.

How to install a Faikin and cable

Follow the steps:

  1. Open the cover of the indoor unit.
  2. Locate the control board slot (the one typically used for the factory WiFi module).
  3. Plug the Faikin into the slot.
  4. Connect it to your WiFi. The first time it powers up it creates its own temporary setup network, join that from your phone, enter your home WiFi details and give it a name. Full steps in the Setup guide.
  5. Open the module's own web page in a browser on your home network. That small page, hosted on the module itself, is your control interface, all local, no cloud, no offshore connection. For most people this is all you need, and it is perfectly fine to stop here.
  6. There is no Faikin app to download, and that is deliberate. An app would route your control through the cloud, and Faikin is local-first, so the on-module web page does the job.
  7. Optional, only if you want to control your aircon while away from home (off your home WiFi): connect it to a home automation platform, Home Assistant, Apple Home, or Google and Alexa. Each has its own app, and the Faikin works with whichever you use. Home Assistant is simplest, its built-in Daikin integration just needs the module's IP.

(The module can also interface with compatible BLE temperature sensors as an external reference.)

Tip: Before purchasing, we recommend buyers read carefully the ESP32-Faikout Codeberg repo. Check your indoor unit model number appears on the confirmed list of working air-con units. If it doesn't, it'll probably still work, it just hasn't been added to the list yet!

Our boards are pre-flashed with the latest stable release firmware (not beta) from RevK. We use and recommend RevK's signing key so official OTA firmware updates are automatic.

Each Faikin model is individually tested for quality control and reliability to ensure it is plug-in ready.

  1. Visit the link above.
