Faikin Ninja P1P2 — Installation Guide

The Faikin P1P2 connects to the P1/P2 control bus on your Daikin VRV, Sky Air or ducted system and gives you full local control over Wi-Fi. You chose one of two builds at checkout, and they differ in how the module joins your Wi-Fi: the WiFi build brings itself online through its own setup network, and the Matter build is put on the network by Matter commissioning from a hub. This guide takes you from wiring to control. Read the safety notes first.

Safety firstIsolate the power before you open anything.Turn the system off at the breaker, not just the remote, and switch off both the indoor and outdoor units. The indoor control board carries mains voltage. If you are not comfortable working inside the unit or the wall controller, use a qualified installer.
No flashing neededYour module arrives ready.It ships tested with the firmware build you chose at checkout, either WiFi or Matter, so there is nothing for you to flash. Firmware updates then arrive automatically over the air.

1. Before you start

Where it connects. The module wires to the two P1/P2 terminals, either on the indoor unit's control board (marked REMOTE CNTRL / P1 P2) or at your wired wall controller — whichever of those the bus actually reaches. On many systems it does not reach the wall, so check before you choose an end (see section 2).

One rule about the bus. The P1/P2 bus allows a maximum of two control devices, a Main and a Sub. The module works as the Sub, and your wall controller stays as the Main. The module needs a Main on the bus, so keep your wall controller. If there is already a Sub device on the bus, such as an infrared receiver or a second wall panel, it has to come off before you fit the module. The quickest way to tell is to count the wires on the P1 and P2 terminals behind your wall controller — see section 2.

If you have a Daikin zone controller. A zone controller (BRC24Z, BRC230Z or BRCSZC series) counts as one of the two devices, so the usual setup is simply: the zone controller stays as the Main and the module joins as the Sub. You keep physical zone control from the zone panel, plus full app control of the unit and its zones. It only becomes a choice if you also have a separate standard wall controller, which would be three devices — then the standard wall controller comes off the bus, because three controllers on the bus can make the unit switch itself on or off and reset the fan speed.

Your label. Which QR code is on the label depends on the build you ordered. The WiFi build carries a Wi-Fi QR for its own setup network, alongside the 8-digit Apple Home code. The Matter build carries a Matter QR with an 11-digit code, and no Wi-Fi QR, because it has no setup network of its own. Keep the label handy.

Wi-Fi reach. The module needs a usable Wi-Fi signal where it sits (around -80 dBm or better). We strongly recommend mounting the module outside the metal indoor unit casing. The metal box is very effective at blocking Wi-Fi, so a module sealed inside it will often fail to connect or keep dropping out. Run the two wires out to the module and sit it somewhere with a clear signal.

2. Wire it in

Check the wall plate firstNot every system carries P1/P2 all the way to the wall.On many installations the P1/P2 pair runs from the indoor unit only as far as a zone controller mounted in or near the unit, and a flat telephone-style lead carries on from there to the wall controller. It takes a minute to check. Pop the wall controller off its wall plate and look at what is behind it. Two wires into screw terminals means P1/P2 is at the wall, so either end of the bus works and the wall controller is usually the easier install. A flat 8-way RJ12 plug, like a telephone lead, means P1/P2 does not reach the wall at all — connect at the indoor unit or the zone controller instead.
While you are in there, count the wiresHow many wires land on each of P1 and P2?This tells you whether the bus has room for the module. One wire on each terminal means your wall controller is the only other device, the bus has a free slot, and the module goes straight on. Two wires on each terminal means the bus carries on to a second device somewhere — commonly another wall panel elsewhere in the building, a simplified or slave controller, or an infrared receiver. Both slots are then taken, so that second device has to be disconnected before the module goes on. Fitting a third device does not fail cleanly: the unit starts switching itself on or off and resetting the fan speed. If you find doubled wires and are not sure what the other device is, send us a photo and we will help you work it out.
  1. Confirm the power is off at the breaker and both units are switched off.
  2. Connect the module's two wires to P1 and P2 on the indoor board (or at the wall controller). The connection is not polarised, so either wire goes to either terminal. Use 24–12 AWG (0.6–2.4 mm) wire.
  3. Mount the module outside the metal indoor unit casing, secured with cable ties and clear of other components, so the Wi-Fi stays strong. The metal box blocks Wi-Fi badly, so do not seal the module inside it.
  4. Restore power to the system.

Zone controllers — use the indoor unitIf you have a Daikin zone controller (BRC24Z, BRC230Z or BRCSZC series), connect at the indoor unit.Those are zone controller kits, and they are always the RJ12 case described above: the wall controller plugs into a separate zone module box with an RJ-style connector, so there are no P1/P2 screw terminals behind the wall plate. On these systems the P1/P2 bus runs between the indoor unit and the zone module box, so the module goes on the indoor unit's control board. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the back of your wall controller and we will tell you which end to use.

3. Get it onto your Wi-Fi (WiFi build)

This section is for the WiFi build. If you have the Matter build, skip to section 4 and pair with the Matter QR, which puts the module on your Wi-Fi as part of the pairing.

  1. On power-up the module broadcasts its own open Wi-Fi network, FaikinAC-XXXX (the XXXX matches the code on the Wi-Fi panel of your label). Scan the Wi-Fi QR on the label to join it, or pick FaikinAC-XXXX from your Wi-Fi list. There is no password.
  2. The setup page opens by itself; if it does not, browse to 8.8.8.8. Enter your home Wi-Fi name and password. You can also set a hostname here — it defaults to the module's name (e.g. FaikinAC-3FF4) and is what you will use to reach it. Press Save & Reboot.
  3. The module restarts and joins your network. From then on, reach it in a browser at faikinac-xxxx.local (using your hostname), or at the IP address your router assigned it (in the router's device list).

If it does not connect: a wrong Wi-Fi name or password sends the module back to its own FaikinAC-XXXX setup network so you can try again. To start fresh, hold the reset button for 15 seconds.

Setting up via Matter? The Matter build never broadcasts a setup network. If no FaikinAC network appears, that is expected. Adding the module to your smart-home app via the Matter QR sets up Wi-Fi for you over Bluetooth (see the next section).

4. Choose how you control it

Once it is on your network, it works in your browser straight away. Home Assistant over MQTT and Apple Home work on either build. To add it to Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Aqara you need the Matter build.

In your web browser

Go to faikinac-xxxx.local (your hostname) or the module's IP, and use the Control page. Nothing else to set up.

Apple Home

Apple Home works on both builds, using a different code on each.

WiFi build: switch HomeKit on firstHomeKit is off by default, and the 8-digit code will not pair until you turn it on.On the module's web page go to Setup > Others, switch HomeKit on, then Save and Reboot. If Apple Home keeps rejecting the code, this is almost always the reason, and it is not a fault. The Matter build needs no toggle.
  1. WiFi build only: on the module's web page, Setup > Others > HomeKit on > Save > Reboot.
  2. In the Home app, tap add (+), then Add Accessory.
  3. On the WiFi build, enter the 8-digit Apple Home code on the label. On the Matter build, scan the Matter QR, or enter the 11-digit Matter code next to it.

Apple Home controls the unit locally from an iPhone on iOS 18 or newer with nothing else needed. Control from outside the house needs an Apple Home hub, which means an Apple TV or a HomePod.

Apple Home has no Dry or Fan Only mode, so you will see two extra switches that turn those modes on and off.

Older module, no Apple Home?We can usually switch it on for you remotely.If you have an older module that joined your network over Wi-Fi and you cannot find the HomeKit option, get in touch. Update the firmware to 3.4.2 or newer first, then send us the short MAC string from the label (for example 3F:90) and we will take care of it. This is not possible on modules that were set up by scanning a Matter QR code in a smart-home app.

Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and other Matter apps

These need the Matter build and use the Matter QR, the same code you use in Apple Home on that build. In the app, add a device and scan the Matter QR on the label (or enter the 11-digit Matter code next to it); it commissions over Bluetooth, and joins Wi-Fi at the same time. Google Home needs a Google home hub, such as a Nest speaker or Nest Hub.

Home Assistant (MQTT)

On the setup page, go to Setup > MQTT, enter your broker's IP, user and password, then Save & Reboot. The module then appears in Home Assistant automatically. If you do not have an MQTT broker yet, the Mosquitto add-on sets one up in a few minutes. Full detail is in the Faikin MQTT manual.

5. Fine-tuning

Most of these live on the module's Setup page.

  • Hostname — change the name you reach it by, on the Wi-Fi page under Setup.
  • Set a password — Setup > Unit > Login password.
  • Temperature step — 0.5° or 1° increments, Setup > Unit.
  • Temperature limits — set a minimum and maximum, Setup > Unit.
  • Fan speeds (VRV / Sky Air) — if you have 4 fan speeds with Auto, set Fan Mode Option to 1; for 2 fan speeds, set it to 3, then Save & Reboot.
  • Vane / swing — turn off if your unit does not use it, Setup > Unit.
  • Fahrenheit — Setup > Unit > Temperature unit.
  • Firmware — use the Firmware Upgrade menu on the home page.
  • Start again — Setup > Reset configuration returns the module to defaults.

6. Your data stays yours

The module runs entirely on your local network. There is no cloud account, no telemetry, and nothing leaves your home. You control your air conditioning, and so does whatever you connect it to, and that is the end of it.
