Ninja WiFi smart controller and cable kit
The two-piece kit is packed with energy saving features, pocket-sized Ninja is engineered for custom AC performance
- Suitable for Daikin and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) systems
- Install the Ninja alongside your existing wall controller and it can read more than OEM WiFi adapters
- Ninja displays your machine's own internal telemetry on your dashboard
- Ninja connects to the two-wire control bus used by Daikin VRV/VRF, Sky Air and ducted systems with a wired wall controller, and by MHI VRF on the X-Y bus
- One Ninja kit per indoor unit is required. If you want to operate several indoor units using Home Assistant you need to install one module per unit
-
A universal cable is included to suit both connection points
A stack of benefits to save energy costs:
- You can control the mode and setpoint as a proper climate entity
- Set room temperatures accurately with greater oversight
- Allocate setpoint limits so you control the access for other users. You can cap how high, or how low, the machine can be adjusted by others (this is perfect for pesky teenagers who like to fiddle with settings!)
Individually detected zones offer better efficiency
- On systems with zone control kits, every zone will appear with its own toggle switch on the interface for easy usability
- Automatically detected zone names can be customised to match your specific needs. Set real room names like 'Lounge', 'Guest Room' or 'Spare Room' rather than generic zone naming conventions like 4, 5 and 6.
- Set up 'Per-Zone' automation which enables you to close off, or open up, various zones to suit your needs. Choose to close the bedroom zone during the day, and then open the zone an hour before bedtime. You can even shut zones down if a window is detected open - to save big on wasted energy.
Hot/cold climates make AC systems work hard, Ninja reveals the data
- View compressor frequency, in Hz - the single most useful number to identify fluctuation
- Watch the machine modulate and 'ramp on' during hot afternoons, and settle down once the room reaches temperature
- Observe the indoor fan speed in RPM, and the outdoor fan step
- View expansion valve position, indoor and outdoor, in pulses
The refrigerant circuit data is visible
- View high, and low side pressures, in MPa
- View indoor coil temperatures
- View outdoor coil temperatures
- See solenoid valve state
Ninja shows your system runtime and performance condition
- View indoor fan hours, operating hours and 'power-on' hours with actual duty eliminating any guesswork
- View anti-freeze, drain pump, electric heater and humidifier states where fitted
- The system's own fault and error codes are revealed, so you, or the installer, can identify exact functions to fix, rather than guessing from a singular blinking light
- Any sensors your unit does not contain will automatically read as 'unavailable' rather than disappearing from view. This is a normal function and it varies by indoor model
Ninja is the most flexible MQTT device on the market
The Ninja controller is designed to expand the functionality of your home automation system and complement any solution you may already own.
- Home Assistant will automatically see Ninja during the MQTT discovery, with no code required and no template sensors. This arrives as a proper entity with the right device classes and units
- The Home Assistant Companion app on iOS and Android, with widgets, notifications and location triggers
- Apple Home works on both Matter (or Apple Home). Apple Home has a WiFi build and also a built-in HomeKit. The Matter build adds it through Matter
- Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and Aqara all require Ninja Matter build. Refer to the Network setup below
- Anything else that speaks MQTT, Ninja can read it too, including openHAB, Node-RED, ioBroker, Domoticz and Homebridge.
- Privacy perfection. Ninja's built-in web page works with no internet, no passwords, and no cloud account at all, on either build. It's great for those with privacy needs. To enable this fuction you must be on the same network.
-
The module itself is fully local. The web page, MQTT and Home Assistant involve no cloud account whatsoever. Only the third-party smart-home platforms route through their own clouds. Firmware updates come from the developer's server, not a cloud service you need an account to operate.
Compatibility with Daikin and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) systems
- Compatible with Daikin VRV / VRF
- Compatible with Daikin Sky Air
- Compatible with Daikin ducted systems with a wired wall controller, including BRC1E family (BRC1E52 / 53 / 63 / 73)
- Compatible with Daikin ducted systems with a zone control kit, including BRC24Z and BRC230Z families
- Compatible with older Daikin systems with no X50A port, or, the blue X50A port the Faikout cable does not use
- Compatible with MHI VRF on the two-wire X-Y bus, via its variant. The FD series is covered. SRK and DXK wall splits use a different connection entirely and are covered by the Faikin Sora instead.
- It covers the Daikin VRV indoor range: cassettes (FXCQ, FXZQ, FXFQ and others), ducted and concealed (FXDQ, FXMQ, FXSQ), ceiling-suspended (FXHQ, FXUQ), wall-mounted (FXAQ) and more.
- Compatibility is confirmed per indoor model, please send us your model number and controller and we can check.
Ninja is easy to install
The process requires two wires and no separate power supply, the module draws what it needs from the bus.
- First, isolate power to the indoor and outdoor units.
- Connect the two module wires to the P1/P2 terminals, either at the indoor unit on the block marked REMOTE CNTRL, or at the back of the wired wall controller.
- The connection is non-polar, so either wire can go to either terminal. Wire is 24 to 12 AWG, 0.6 to 2.4 mm.
- Restore power last, then bring the module online.
The bus allows two control devices, one Main and one Sub. Your wired wall controller is the 'Main' with no changes required. The Ninja joins onto the Main as a Sub. If something else is already sitting in the Sub position, such as an infrared receiver, it has to come off first.
If you have a zone control kit, the whole kit counts as one device. The zone controller and the wall panel that comes with it are a single Main, not two devices, so the Sub slot is still free for the Ninja. See the FAQ.
Safety warning: You are working inside a live appliance. If you are not comfortable to open the indoor unit yourself, please hire an professional installer.
What's included in the kit?
- Ninja smart controller module
- Firmware choice preloaded
- Cable to connect. The ferrule-blade ends land on the P1/P2 terminals on the indoor unit's control board, on the block marked REMOTE CNTRL, and they sit in the screw terminals behind a wired wall controller such as a BRC1E. Connect at whichever end is easier to reach, and control is identical either way. The slim form factor also suits the shallow cavity behind a modern wall controller.
Multi-buy discount! Get a 10% discount when you purchase two or more modules or kits.
Are you running a zone control kit? We recommmend you connect the Ninja to the indoor unit. On a zone kit the wall panel runs back to the zone controller on an RJ lead rather than P1/P2 screw terminals, so there is nothing at the wall to land on.
Have you made the right firmware choice for your Ninja and system? To ensure the correct firmware is loaded, send us your indoor model number and we can help you identify from a Daikin (P1/P2 bus) or MHI VRF (two-wire X-Y bus).
Choose WiFi or Matter firmware builds for a solid Ninja network
Your Ninja is delivered with your choice of either WiFi or Matter firmware types which are selected at time of purchase. Ninjas are not generically set up but they are priced all the same. Ninjas are pre-flashed and quality tested by our trusty team, and in the future, there will be no firmware updates to manage because all arrive to you over the air. Bonus!
Firmware build options:
-
WiFi. This option runs with a local web interface, MQTT or Home Assistant and it has built-in Apple Home. The module creates its own setup WiFi network so you simply join it to your home WiFi from a browser on any mobile device or laptop, requiring nothing more. Quickly and easily add it to your Home app by scanning the WiFi QR code on the Ninja label. This option will not work with Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Aqara.
- Matter. This option works with 'matter environments' such as Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Aqara and iPhone on iOS18+ noting it does not broadcast its own setup WiFi network. To pair Ninja with your WiFi, simply scan the Matter QR code using the app of your choice. iPhone's do not require a hub. Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Aqara each need their platform's hub or speaker at the property.
Your router requires IPv6 and mDNS switched on, which some routers may block by default. An iPhone will work with Matter, however to use Ninja outside of your home network you will need an Apple TV, or HomePod.
Hint: If you are uncertain you have a Matter platform to pair with, choose WiFi. If you are still unsure, ask us, and we can identify which option will suit your needs.
What this does not do
- Ninja does not replace your wall controller. It runs alongside it, and the bus two-device limit applies.
- There are no field settings. The installer-level configuration stays on the wall controller.
- There is no vendor app of our own, by design. The built-in web page is for setup and diagnostics. Use Home Assistant, Apple Home or whichever platform you have for daily use.
- Sensor coverage varies by indoor model. The systems mentioned in the list above come with a wired controller such as a BRC1E. A simpler indoor unit reports less.
-
MHI SRK and DXK wall splits are not covered by the Ninja, only the two-wire X-Y VRF systems are. For the wall splits see the Faikin Sora.

FAQ
Will it fight with my wall controller?
No. Your wall controller stays the Main and keeps its full function. The Ninja joins as the Sub. The bus only allows two devices in total, so anything already in the Sub position has to come off.
I have a Daikin zone controller as well. Will that work?
Usually yes, and more easily than people expect. Most modern zone controllers are kits - one device handles the zones and the normal air conditioning functions together. The supplied wall panel which is typically a BRC24 or BRC230 type, is an extension of the zone controller rather than a second device on the bus. So the kit counts as a single Main, and the Sub slot is still free for the Ninja.
If there is something genuinely separate already sitting in the Sub position, such as an infrared receiver, this can cause trouble, and we recommend it comes off. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your controllers, noting zone kits are to connect at the indoor unit, rather than at the wall.
Can I change from WiFi to Matter later?
No. They are different firmware builds. You would negotiate to purchase and try the other type.
Do I need Home Assistant?
No. The built-in web page works on its own, the WiFi build works with Apple Home, and the Matter build works with Apple Home and the rest without Home Assistant anywhere. Home Assistant is the best and most useful app to run the Ninja.
Can I flash it myself?
No. The Ninja is pre-flashed and tested for the system you chose.
Does it need internet?
You only need internet for firmware updates. Local control keeps work with no internet connection at all.
I have an Altherma heat pump, it's not an air conditioning unit.
The Ninja will not control a heat pump. See the Faikin Oyu for Daikin Altherma 2 and 3.

Ninja P1/P2 WiFi is a great product. Finally my Daikin VRV can be controlled remotely.
Easy configuration and connection to Home Assistant
I installed 6 of the P1P2 modules on my Daikin system. Everything worked as expected. Just needed to fit them to the wall controllers, connect to each WiFi hotspot they created, enter the WiFi and MQTT info and bingo, they appeared in Home Assistant! Could not have gone smoother.
