Safety firstIsolate the power before you open anything.Turn the system off at the breaker, not just the remote, and switch off both the indoor and outdoor units. The indoor control board carries mains voltage. If you are not comfortable working inside the unit or the wall controller, use a qualified installer.
No flashing neededYour module arrives ready.It ships pre-provisioned and tested, so there is nothing for you to flash. Firmware updates then arrive automatically over the air.

1. Before you start

Which systems this fits. This module is for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries indoor units that use the X-Y two-wire control bus, which is the bus used by the FD series (FDU, FDT, FDUA, FDK and similar) and by MHI VRF systems. It is not for the five-wire CNS/SPI splits such as the SRK and DXK ranges. If you are not sure which you have, send us the model number and we will confirm it.

Where it connects. The module wires to the two X and Y terminals, either on the indoor unit's control board or at your wired wall controller.

One rule about the bus. The X-Y bus allows a maximum of two control devices, a Main and a Sub. The module works as the Sub, and your wall controller stays as the Main. The module needs a Main on the bus, so keep your wall controller. If there is already a Sub device on the bus, such as an infrared receiver, remove it before you fit the module. Control devices are usually marked Main RC or Sub RC.

Your label. The sticker on the module carries QR codes you will use during setup: a Wi-Fi QR (always), an Apple Home QR with an 8-digit code, and a Matter QR with an 11-digit code. Keep the label handy.

Wi-Fi reach. The module needs a usable Wi-Fi signal where it sits (around -80 dBm or better). We strongly recommend mounting the module outside the metal indoor unit casing. The metal box is very effective at blocking Wi-Fi, so a module sealed inside it will often fail to connect or keep dropping out. Run the two wires out to the module and sit it somewhere with a clear signal.

The Ethernet version replaces Wi-Fi with a wired network socket; KNX adds a KNX bus connection; Tuya adds SmartLife and Tuya Smart app support.

2. Wire it in

  1. Confirm the power is off at the breaker and both units are switched off.
  2. Connect the module's two wires to X and Y on the indoor board (or at the wall controller). The connection is not polarised, so either wire goes to either terminal. Use 24–12 AWG (0.6–2.4 mm) wire.
  3. Mount the module outside the metal indoor unit casing, secured with cable ties and clear of other components, so the Wi-Fi stays strong. The metal box blocks Wi-Fi badly, so do not seal the module inside it.
  4. Restore power to the system, then wait about three minutes for the air conditioner to finish booting before you configure the module.
Good to knowIf your only access is at the wall controller, the same two X-Y terminals are there too. Either end of the bus works.

3. Get it onto your network

Ethernet versionWired instead of Wi-Fi.If you ordered the Ethernet version, it has a network socket rather than Wi-Fi: plug it into your router or switch with a standard network cable and it joins the network straight away, so you can skip this whole section. Everything after it is the same — the built-in web page, Home Assistant, Apple Home, Google Home and KNX all work exactly as described.
Which setup does my module use?Check the LED when the module powers up.If the LED blinks blue quickly for about 20 seconds and then red quickly, yours is a Wi-Fi setup unit: it broadcasts the FaikinAC-XXXX network, so follow the steps below. If the LED blinks blue slowly, about once per second, your module pairs over Bluetooth instead: it does not broadcast a setup network, so skip these steps and add it through Apple Home or another Matter app (next section), and it joins your Wi-Fi as part of that pairing. The newest modules do both.
  1. On power-up the module broadcasts its own open Wi-Fi network, FaikinAC-XXXX (the XXXX matches the code on the Wi-Fi panel of your label). Scan the Wi-Fi QR on the label to join it, or pick FaikinAC-XXXX from your Wi-Fi list. There is no password.
  2. The setup page opens by itself; if it does not, browse to 8.8.8.8. Enter your home Wi-Fi name and password. You can also set a hostname here — it defaults to the module's name (e.g. FaikinAC-3FF4) and is what you will use to reach it. Press Save & Reboot.
  3. The module restarts and joins your network. From then on, reach it in a browser at faikinac-xxxx.local (using your hostname), or at the IP address your router assigned it (in the router's device list).

If it does not connect: a wrong Wi-Fi name or password sends the module back to its own FaikinAC-XXXX setup network so you can try again. To start fresh, hold the reset button for 15 seconds.

4. Choose how you control it

Once it is on your network, it works in your browser straight away. To add it to a smart-home app, use the QR codes on the module's label. If a QR does not scan or the code is rejected, pair through the Apple Home app with the Matter code, the label QRs can be unreliable on some batches.

In your web browser

The module has its own built-in web page for control and settings. It works on any phone or computer, as long as you are on the same Wi-Fi network as the module.

  1. The easiest way in: type the module's name followed by .local into your browser's address bar. The name is FaikinAC- plus the four-character code on the Wi-Fi panel of the label. For example, if your label says FaikinAC-3FF4, type http://faikinac-3ff4.local
  2. If that address does not load, use the module's IP address instead. Open your router's app or admin page — the address and login are usually printed on a sticker on the router itself, commonly 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
  3. Look for a section called Connected Devices, Device List or similar. Find the device named FaikinAC-XXXX and note the IP address next to it, something like 192.168.1.57.
  4. Type that IP address into your browser's address bar and the Faikin control page opens. Use the Control page — nothing else to set up.
  5. Bookmark the page, or use your phone browser's "Add to Home Screen" option, and it opens like an app from then on.

The page is local only, it is not reachable from outside your home network. If we are helping you troubleshoot, open the Status page from the module's menu and reply to us with a screenshot of it.

Apple Home

  1. Turn Apple Home on: open the module's web page, go to Setup > Others, set Homekit to ON, and press Save & Reboot.
  2. In the Home app, tap add (+), Add Accessory, and scan the Apple Home QR on the label (or enter the 8-digit code next to it).

Setup > Others: switch Homekit to ON, then Save & Reboot.

Apple Home has no Dry or Fan Only mode, so you will see two extra switches that turn those modes on and off.

Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and other Matter apps

These use the Matter QR. In the app, add a device and scan the Matter QR on the label (or enter the 11-digit Matter code next to it); it commissions over Bluetooth, and joins Wi-Fi at the same time if it is not already on your network. Google Home needs a Google home hub, such as a Nest speaker or Nest Hub. You can also add the module to Apple Home with the Matter QR, instead of the native Apple Home method above.

Dry and Fan Only are not part of the standard Matter thermostat, so they appear as the extra switches described under Apple Home. If the module is already paired to another system, do not reuse the original code: share it from the app it is already in, which generates a new pairing code.

If it will not pairMatter relies on IPv6 and mDNS (multicast) working on your network. Some routers block or mishandle these, which stops a hub from finding the module. If pairing fails, check that IPv6 and multicast/mDNS are enabled on your router before anything else.

Home Assistant (MQTT)

On the setup page, go to Setup > MQTT, enter your broker's IP, user and password, then Save & Reboot. The module then appears in Home Assistant automatically. If you do not have an MQTT broker yet, the Mosquitto add-on sets one up in a few minutes. Full detail is in the Faikin MQTT manual.

SmartLife or Tuya

SmartLife and Tuya support is a special order, not something we stock or enable by default. If you would like it, email us and we will quote it and build one for you. Your module then comes with a Tuya QR code, and scanning it in the SmartLife or Tuya Smart app adds the module automatically. Use one app or the other, not both. This is the only option that uses a cloud service rather than staying entirely on your network.

5. KNX

Optional, for KNX installations. The KNX version is a special order, so email us before you order and we will quote and build one.

  1. Connect the module's K+ and K- contacts to the KNX bus. Unlike the X-Y bus, KNX is polarised and must be connected the right way round. Connecting it backwards will not damage the module, but it will not work. Use 22 AWG (0.5 mm) wire.
  2. In ETS (version 6.2 or earlier only), open the Catalog, import the product file supplied with the module, and choose Add device.
  3. Set the module address, for example 15.15.29, and assign the control parameters (Temperature Setpoint, On Off, Mode, Fan speed and so on) to your group addresses.
  4. Put the module into programming mode, either with the hardware programming button or under Setup > Others > KNX Program Mode ON, then Save & Reboot.
  5. Run a full configuration download.

The KNX connection status, address and programming state are shown on the module's Status page, and in the device's Diagnostic page in Home Assistant.

6. Fine-tuning

Most of these live on the module's Setup page.

  • Hostname — change the name you reach it by, on the Wi-Fi page under Setup.
  • Set a password — Setup > Unit > Login password.
  • Temperature step — 0.5° or 1° increments, Setup > Unit.
  • Temperature limits — set a minimum and maximum, Setup > Unit.
  • Fan speeds (MHI X-Y) — set Fan Mode Option to 0 for 3 fan speeds, 1 for 4 speeds with Auto, or 2 for 5 speeds, then Save & Reboot.
  • Vane / swing — turn off if your unit does not use it, Setup > Unit.
  • Fahrenheit — Setup > Unit > Temperature unit.
  • Firmware — use the Firmware Upgrade menu on the home page.
  • Start again — Setup > Reset configuration returns the module to defaults.

7. Your data stays yours

The module runs entirely on your local network. There is no cloud account, no telemetry, and nothing leaves your home. The only exception is if you order the optional SmartLife or Tuya version above, which uses Tuya's cloud service and is covered by their own privacy terms.
