Faikin WiFi smart controller for Daikin air conditioner units. Get local and home automation control. For homeowners, AirBNB and hotel owners.

Faikin (aka Faikout) WiFi smart controller + cable kit

Cables are hand-made here in Canberra. We use high-quality 22 and 26 gauge high-temperature silicon or PVC insulated wires and genuine JST and Molex crimps and connectors.

What you get

  • 1 × Faikin controller board (ESP32-based, Daikin-compatible)
  • 1 × Faikin cable of your choice (Type A, B, C, D, E, F or G)
  • Access to the open-source ESP32-Faikout firmware and documentation on GitHub
  • Community support from other Faikin users

Ready to use

Each Faikin module is:

  • Flashed with the latest official RevK firmware at dispatch
  • Plug and play with no extra flashing required
  • Configured to self-update over the air when new stable firmware is released (you can control this behaviour via the web interface)

This listing is for a Faikin board plus one cable. If you need extra cables (for multiple heads, spares, or experimentation), you can buy additional cables separately.

Choosing the right cable type

Use the photos on this page and the “Wiring” and “List of confirmed working air con units” pages in the ESP32-Faikout GitHub wiki before ordering.

Type A

  • Suitable for standard S21 ports.
  • Provides both power and data on one lead.
  • Connector: JST EHR-5.
  • Refer to the Wiring page in the GitHub repo for pinout and examples.

Type B

  • Suitable for the smaller S21 ports found on many newer Daikin units.
  • The S21 port typically provides ~5.3–5.6 V on pin 1, ground on pin 2, and TTL-level TX/RX signals.
  • Cable carries both power and data.
  • Connector: JST PAP-05V-S.
  • See the Wiring page in the GitHub repo for details.

Type C

  • For indoor units with an X50A socket.
  • X50A carries data; you also draw power from X35A.
  • This cable provides a split lead for both sockets.
  • Connectors:
    • JST ZHR-8 for X50A comms
    • JST XHP-2 for X35A power
  • More information is available in GitHub discussion #283 (linked from the Type C documentation).

Type D

  • Suitable for S403 sockets where the original Type D plug fits.
  • Only four conductors are required; this cable is hand-made to suit this connector.
  • Connector: JST XAP-10V-1.

Type E

  • For S403 sockets where Type D does not fit (different mechanical keying and housing).
  • Uses a newer connector style; carefully compare your indoor PCB to the product photos.
  • Connector: JST PBVP-10V-S.

Type F

  • For X50A sockets where Type C does not fit (newer X50A variant with a Molex housing).
  • Provides a split lead:
    • Molex Micro-Lock Plus connector for X50A comms
    • JST XHP-2 for power (typically from X35A or equivalent header)
  • See the detailed discussion of this connector and socket style in GitHub issue #676:
    https://github.com/revk/ESP32-Faikout/issues/676.

Type G

  • Suitable for indoor units with a CN_WIRED or CN_WIRE connector
  • Connector: JST PHR-5.

If you are unsure which cable you need, check both:

and compare your indoor unit model and PCB connectors to the documentation before ordering.

Compatibility & model list

The ESP32-Faikout wiki maintains a “List of confirmed working air con units” with cable types for each indoor model:
https://github.com/revk/ESP32-Faikout/wiki/List-of-confirmed-working-air-con-units

  • There are over 80 Daikin indoor unit model numbers currently listed as confirmed working with Faikin and the appropriate cable type.

If your unit is not on the list:

  • Contact Andrew via the Faikin contact page: https://www.faikin.au/pages/contact.
  • Include your indoor unit model number and, if possible, a photo of the PCB and connectors.
  • He will look it up against the documentation and advise which cable type you should use (or if your unit is not suitable).

No-risk compatibility

If you buy a Faikin + cable set and it turns out not to be compatible with your indoor unit, you can return it for a full refund, with return postage covered. The aim is to grow the confirmed-working list, not leave customers stuck with hardware they cannot use.

(Exact service levels and carriers may vary slightly by destination.)

Safety and responsibilities

  • Always isolate mains power before opening or working on your air conditioner or its indoor unit.
  • Some connectors (for example S403) may have a mains-voltage pin present on the header. Treat all wiring as live until proven otherwise.
  • Installation is at the buyer’s own risk. If you are not comfortable working inside an air-conditioning unit, arrange for a licensed technician to install the cable and module.

Open-source project & community

Faikin hardware is part of the ESP32-Faikout open-source project.

  • Firmware and hardware information are published on GitHub.
  • There is a large and active user community experimenting with different Daikin models, automation scenarios and integrations.
  • No profits are made from Faikin hardware sales; revenue is used to support manufacturing, testing, documentation and project growth.

Before purchasing, buyers should:

  1. Read the ESP32-Faikout GitHub repo, especially:
    • Known compatible Daikin models” - I keep this wiki up to date. If your model isn't listed, shoot me a message and I'll look it up in the Daikin parts catalogue for you.
    • Wiring and relevant discussions for your connector type
  2. Confirm their indoor unit model and connector type.
  3. Check local electrical regulations if they intend to have hardware installed by someone other than a licensed technician.

Price & value compared with other options

Pricing for these products faikin.au includes the appropriate cable and free worldwide shipping with duties paid.

By comparison:

  • Official Daikin Wi-Fi adaptors
    • BRP072C42 Wi-Fi adaptor kits commonly sell in the $198–$240 AUD range in Australia.
    • Daikin Airbase BRP15B61 Wi-Fi / LAN adaptor for ducted systems is typically around $285 AUD.
  • Generic IR-based smart controllers
    • Sensibo Sky units are usually around $145–$150 AUD each.
    • Ambi Climate 2 AI controllers sell for roughly $150–$175 AUD.
  • Ducted / zoning controllers
    • Daikin AirHub / smart zone controllers and similar systems (for example Airzone VAF solutions, iZone controllers) typically run in the hundreds of dollars per system, with some smart zoning setups and controllers pushing $1,500+ once hardware and installation are included.

Those alternatives are often cloud-dependent, tied to specific apps, or aimed at whole-of-house ducted setups rather than individual split systems.

Faikin’s niche is:

  • Board-level, local control of Daikin indoor units
  • MQTT, Home Assistant and other open integrations out of the box, with no cloud requirement
  • Pricing that is well below OEM Daikin Wi-Fi kits and ducted zoning systems, while still undercutting many IR-only smart controllers

For most single-room or multi-split Daikin setups, that gives you deeper control at a lower price, with an exit route if it does not work on your specific unit.
