Faikin vs Airzone Aidoo for Daikin

Faikin vs Airzone Aidoo for Daikin

June 10, 2026Faikin Australia

Faikin and the Airzone Aidoo both wire into a Daikin unit and give it WiFi control. They are aimed at different buyers: the Aidoo at installers and building management integrators, the Faikin at people who want local smart home control of their own air conditioner without a cloud account.

Quick answer: if you need Modbus or BACnet, are integrating Daikin units into a commercial building management system, or want a certified product an installer will stand behind, the Aidoo Pro is built for exactly that. If you want an affordable, open source, subscription-free controller for Home Assistant or MQTT at home, Faikin does the same core job for a fraction of the price.

What they are

Airzone Aidoo is a family of wired adapters from Airzone, a Spanish HVAC controls company. Daikin-specific versions exist for residential splits, Sky Air and VRV, and Altherma heat pumps. The standard Aidoo connects to the Airzone Cloud app; the Aidoo Pro adds a local API plus Modbus and BACnet for building management systems and third-party thermostat integration. It is sold mainly through HVAC distributors, mostly in Europe and North America. Australian retail availability is thin, so most buyers here import at roughly USD $170 to $280 depending on the version, before shipping.

Faikin is a small module running the open source ESP32-Faikout firmware. It plugs into the data port inside the Daikin indoor unit, presents a local web interface, and speaks MQTT with Home Assistant auto-discovery. Home Assistant is not essential: anything with MQTT works, including openHAB, Node-RED, Domoticz, ioBroker, Homey and Hubitat, and an MQTT bridge adds HomeKit, Alexa and Google Home. The new Faikin P1P2 model has native HomeKit and Matter support, no bridge needed, for ducted, cassette and commercial systems. There is no cloud account and no subscription. The module with a model-matched cable is AUD $97.90 including GST with free shipping ($89 for orders outside Australia, before local taxes and duties).

Where the Aidoo is the better buy

Commercial and professional jobs. If the spec sheet says Modbus or BACnet, the Aidoo Pro is the answer and Faikin is not. The same goes for Altherma heat pumps, which Faikin does not target, and for projects where the client expects a certified product with manufacturer support and an installer warranty. Airzone also offers dry-contact thermostat integration for pairing Daikin units with third-party smart thermostats.

Where Faikin is the better buy

Home use. The Aidoo costs roughly two and a half to four times as much once it reaches Australia, and its standard control path runs through the Airzone Cloud. Faikin is local-first: control keeps working if your internet drops or a vendor shuts a server down. The firmware is open source and actively developed, the integration with Home Assistant requires no cloud account, and the unit state you see is read directly from the air conditioner. Check your indoor unit model number against the compatibility database to confirm the right cable; if the kit does not fit, return it for a full refund.

FAQ

Does the Aidoo work with Home Assistant?

Yes. The standard Aidoo connects through the Airzone Cloud integration, and the Aidoo Pro's local API is supported by the Airzone integration. It works, but the hardware costs considerably more than a Faikin doing the same job locally.

Does Faikin support Modbus or BACnet?

No. Faikin is HTTP and MQTT only. For BMS protocols, use the Aidoo Pro.

Which is easier to install?

They are similar: both wire to a port inside the indoor unit. Both require isolating power and removing the front panel. If you are not confident, use a licenced technician for either.
